ISLAND PRESIDENT wins Documentary Audience Award at the Toronto Film Fest

September 20th, 2011

Impact Partners is proud to announce that THE ISLAND PRESIDENT won the DOCUMENTARY AUDIENCE AWARD at the Toronto Film Festival.

Here are some of the rave reviews the film is getting since its Toronto premier:

“Boasting astonishing access, director Jon Shenk’s The Island President documents a brave battle against overwhelming odds. If the endangered archipelago can just keep its head above water long enough to be heard, the charismatic leader hopes to save the lowest country on earth. Should he fail, this inspiring big-issue doc virtually ensures ‘Remember the Maldives’ will become a rallying cry in the fight against global warming.” Variety.

The Island President brings you an urgent take on trouble in paradise, and a character, Mohamed Nasheed, who couldn’t be a better advocate for an underdog’s position. More entertaining than An Inconvenient Truth, the film should ride the zeitgeist to a theatrical release in North America and Europe, and a strong showing in television markets. Mohamed Nasheed won an election. He should help The Island President win awards.” Screen Daily.

“A spirited, pictorially dazzling story of the charismatic Nasheed’s charmingly quixotic attempt to use the fate of his island nation — ground zero when it comes to impending destruction by rising tides — to alert the world about the dangers of our carbon-producing modern lifestyles.” Filmmaker Magazine.
